John Foster, a Louisiana native and biology student at LSU with dreams of becoming a โ€œsinging oncologistโ€, stepped onto the American Idol stage not only to pursue music but also to honor a deeper purposeโ€”helping those battling cancer.

At his first audition, he charmed the judges with a Conway Twitty classic and a heart full of purpose. Initially hesitant, Luke Bryan was won over by Johnโ€™s Southern charm and authenticity, turning his โ€œnoโ€ into a firm โ€œyes.โ€ Watch below.

But it was during the Top 20 round that John truly left his mark. Performing an original song titled โ€œTell That Angel I Love Her,โ€ he brought the entire audienceโ€”and himselfโ€”to tears. The song, a raw, emotional tribute to his two late best friends Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, resonated deeply.

As he closed the performance with the words, โ€œI love you, Maggie,โ€ Carrie Underwood asked about the heartfelt sign-off. John then pointed to the audience, where the parents of both girls sat, visibly moved.

Lyrics like:
๐Ÿ“ โ€œEach tear that falls on my guitar / Is a hug from afar / Lord, wonโ€™t you tell that angel I love her?โ€
showcase not just his songwriting talent, but also his soul.

John Foster isnโ€™t just chasing a dreamโ€”heโ€™s singing for something far greater.
