Set in the Australian Outback during the 1880s, The Proposition follows Captain Stanley (Ray Winstone), a British lawman, as he offers a brutal deal to outlaw Charlie Burns (Guy Pearce). In exchange for his brotherβs life, Charlie must hunt down his older brother, Arthur (Danny Huston), a ruthless criminal.
As Charlie embarks on this grim mission, tensions between law and justice, loyalty and survival, become increasingly complex. The harsh, unforgiving desert landscape mirrors the moral struggle the characters face.
